Delhi coronavirus cases cross 1 lakh-mark, recovery rate at 71%

Delhi’s coronavirus tally on Monday breached the one lakh-mark as the city recorded 1,379 fresh cases of the virus. The death toll due to Covid-19 mounted to 3,115.

Delhi government’s Monday bulletin said that the total number of cases in the national capital has mounted to 1,00,823. However, of the total over one lakh cases, nearly 72,000 coronavirus patients have been discharged after full recovery, leaving only 25,620 active cases.

According to an official statement, the case fatality rate in Delhi at present is 3.09 per cent while the recovery rate is at 71.73 per cent.

On June 23, the national capital had reported its highest single-day spike of 3,947 cases.

However, in the last few days, the number of fresh cases have oscillated, not showing a particular trend in figures.

Around 1.82 lakh rapid antigen tests have been conducted in Delhi since June 18 to check the spread of Covid-19, while the number of ambulances has increased from 337 to 602, bringing down the response time to 30 minutes in the city.

Delhi, the third worst-hit state by Covid-19 in the country, went from 445 coronavirus cases in March to 97,200 cases in four months till July 4.

The first case in the national capital was detected on March 2, while the first health bulletin was issued by the city government on March 4. Delhi’s silver lining was its recovery rate.

The recovery rate increased to 42.69 per cent on June 18, after staying below the 40 per cent-mark for 13 days (June 1-13), according to an analysis of the Delhi government figures on coronavirus.

The current recovery rate of the national capital at 71.73 per cent is higher than the national recovery rate of 60.77 per cent.
