After a wait of 23 years, a Hong Kong-based lawyer has taken on her Darjeeling-based tutor who would repeatedly molest her in her childhood and later would go on to do the same to other children.
Coping with the childhood trauma over decades, the 37-year-old woman found out last year that the teacher had molested several others in the years later, which is when she decided to act on it. According to a report in The Times of India, the 46-year-old man, a father and husband, has finally been arrested.
According to the report, a team of Darjeeling police officials busted Jitesh Ojha from his residence in Siliguri earlier this month. The woman had emailed her complaint last year. It took the police over a year to nab the accused man and gather enough evidence of his repeated offence to make the arrest.
The Hong Kong-based finance lawyer was molested by the schoolteacher when she was 14 years old. But she only found out about the other cases last year during the MeToo movement. She then raised a complaint with the police and mailed her concern.
She told TOI that as a child being raised in the hill station of Darjeeling, she didn’t have the courage to stand up against her molester. But after two decades, in a random conversation with friends, she found that he had molested several others.
However, police said they had to wait for enough evidence as the teacher had an impeccable reputation in the circles. He had changed over 20 schools in his career.
