CBI raids underway at 14 premises linked to Congress leader DK Shivakumar

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday raided the premises of senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar in connection with the alleged corruption case against him.

Sources indicated that the CBI raids are underway at 14 premises of state Congress chief DK Shivakumar and his brother and MP DK Suresh, including the former’s residence at Doddalahalli, Kanakapura and Sadashiva Nagar, in Bengaluru.

It may be noted that the CBI has registered a case against DK Shivakumar and others on allegations of acquisition of disproportionate assets. The searches are being conducted at multiple locations — nine in Karnataka, four in Delhi and one in Mumbai.

Earlier, the state government had given permission to CBI to probe the corruption charges against the leader.

Soon after the development, senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala slammed the Karnataka government and called the CBI a “puppet” of the BJP government in the state under BS Yediyurappa.

“The insidious game of intimidation and machinations of Modi-Yeddyurappa duo being executed by a puppet CBI by raiding DK Shivakumar won’t deter us,” Surjewala said.

“CBI should be unearthing the layers of corruption in Yeddyurappa Govt. But, ‘Raid Raj’ is their only Machiavellian Move,” he added.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also slammed the BJP over the raids at DK Shivakumar’s premises.

He said, “BJP has always tried to indulge in vindictive politics and mislead public attention. The latest CBI raids on KPCC president DK Shivakumar’s house is another attempt to derail our preparation for bypolls. I strongly condemn this.”
