Bihar Police has arrested a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader for Bihar Assembly election 2020 in Madhepura where he had gone to collect character certificate.
Chandrahas Chaupal, the RJD aspirant from Singheshwar assembly seat, was arrested by the police in a kidnapping case of 2016. Chaupal said he was being framed by the JDU-led government in Bihar in a false case.
On the other hand, the Bihar Police said a warrant was pending against Chaupal and when police came to know about his presence in Madhepura, they arrested him.
Police said an FIR – 21/16 – had been lodged in the Shankarpur Police Station. He was arrested from the premises of the Madhepura sub-divisional office.
Chaupal is a ticket aspirant for Bihar Assembly election. He said he had been promised by the RJD leadership to nominate him from Singheswar seat in the Madhepura district. The party reportedly asked him to furnish a character certificate before he could be named from the constituency.
Chaupal said he had been a mukhiya (elected head) of the Raibhir panchayat. He rejected the allegation of kidnapping for which the police arrested him.
