The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday approved the construction of the Legislative Assembly and High Court buildings, five iconic towers, trunk and lay LPS (Land Pooling Scheme) roads at a total cost of ₹24,276 crore.
The Assembly and High Court buildings have been planned to be constructed in 103 acres and 42 acres in Amaravati at a cost of ₹765 crore and ₹1,049 crore respectively (₹1,814 crore in total).
Briefing the media about the decisions taken in the APCRDA meeting, Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana said that the Legislative Assembly building would be a 250-metre-high tower with a built-up area of 11.22 lakh sq. ft. People would be allowed to climb the tower and take a view of the capital city from there when the Legislature is not in session.
The High Court building will be a G+7 55 metre-high structure, with a built-up area of 20.32 lakh sft, the Mimnister said.
The five iconic towers would be have a total space of 68,88,064 sft and those would be built at a cost ₹4,688 crore. Among the five structures is the GAD tower which would have G+47 floors, with a total area of 17,03,433 sft. These towers would house offices of Ministers, Secretaries, Heads of Departments and their staff.
Besides, the APCRDA meeting gave its nod for laying of LPS roads measuring 579.50 km, along with sewerage and drinking water lines, storm water drains and electrical and telecom cables, at a total cost of ₹9,699 crore.
Escalation of cost
Mr. Narayana said that the cost of construction of government buildings escalated by 49.02% since 2017-18 fiscal year when the tenders were first invited after Amaravati had been decided as the capital city. The costs of the iconic towers, flood canals and LPS works went up by 41%, 39% and 28% to 35% respectively.
