Amitabh Bachchan has been shifted to the Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai after testing positive for coronavirus on Saturday.

The Bollywood megastar confirmed his coronavirus diagnosis on Twitter and asked all those who have been in close proximity to him to get tested for Covid-19

“I have tested Covid positive. Shifted to Hospital. Family and staff undergone tests, results awaited. All that have been in close proximity to me in the last 10 days are requested to please get themselves tested,” Amitabh Bachchan said in a tweet.

Doctors have confirmed to India Today that Amitabh Bachchan was symptomatic and was self-isolating at home before being taken to the Nanavati Hospital on Saturday evening.

While the senior actor had been staying at home ever since the lockdown began on March 25, he had recently shot promotional content for the quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati and other projects at his home and hence had contact with the production crew who came to his house.

People from across walks of life responded to Bacchan’s tweet and wished him a speedy recovery.

“Prayers sir !! Sending you lots of love and strength,” wrote actor Rajkummar Rao on Twitter. His co-star in films like Baghban, Boman Irani also wrote, “You’re a fighter Sir. Get well soon.”

Amitabh Bachchan, one of the world’s most famous filmstars, happens to be the second superstar to contract the coronavirus. Hollywood’s Tom Hanks along with his wife had earlier tested positive and recovered after the mandatory quarantine.

Nanavati Hospital is located in Mumbai’s Ville Parle, which is very close to the actor’s residence in Juhu area of the city.

Amitabh Bachchan, 77, had survived a near-fatal accident on the sets of Manmohan Desai’s Coolie in 1982. He has lived with a compromised liver since then on account of discipline. He works out regularly and follows a strict dietary regime.

Big B was last seen in Shoojit Sircar’s comedy-drama Gulabo Sitabo alongside Ayushmann Khurrana. The film was initially going to be released in theatres, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it premiered on Amazon Prime Video.
