American poet Louise Glück has won the Nobel Prize in Literature “for her unmistakable poetic voice.”
The prize was announced Thursday in Stockholm by Mats Malm, the permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy.
The Nobel Prize for Literature was awarded this time after several years of controversy and scandal for this literary honour. It was postponed in 2018 after sex abuse allegations that rocked the Swedish Academy.
Announcing the Nobel Prize to Louise Glück, the official Twitter handle of the Nobel Prize wrote, “The 2020 Nobel Prize in Literature is awarded to the American poet Louise Glück “for her unmistakable poetic voice that with austere beauty makes individual existence universal.”
Louise Gluck debuted as an author in 1968 with ‘Firstborn’ that won her acclaimed and she soon established herself as one of the most prominent poets in American contemporary literature. She has a dozen collections of poetry published besides volumes of essays on poetry.
