Afraid that news of his second marriage and child from that union would ruin his political prospects, a man in Karnataka murdered his two-year-old daughter.

A murder most foul took place almost a month ago in Chitradurga district of Karnataka and only came to light after the mother approached the police in search of her two-year-old daughter. A 35-year-old man identified as Ningappa was afraid his career as a politician would be destroyed so he murdered his own daughter in the most heinous manner.
The accused had a secret relationship with Shashikala, age 29, for the past four years. They had a daughter Shirisha, age 2, who was the unfortunate victim. Without the knowledge of their families, they had gone about with their lives. But recently, Shashikala’s family members began to pester her to get married and she wanted Ningappa to let everyone know of their relationship.
The accused objected since he was preparing to contest the gram panchayat elections and the matter would hurt his prospects. So he devised a shrewd plan. He sent his wife to her home village but kept their daughter with him.
He took his daughter to an isolated place in the district and strangulated her. He then buried her in a pit and left for home.
In fact, the accused was already married and has three sons from the first marriage. His first wife, it is alleged, never knew of his second marriage. When the second wife said she wanted to speak to her daughter, the accused kept saying the little girl was alright. Finally on October 8, after having an argument on the phone, the accused told his second wife to forget about her daughter.
This is when Shashikala approached the police and filed a complaint. The accused was apprehended by the police on October 12 and confessed to having murdered his own daughter.
