Lucknow: The UP government has instructed chief medical officers and chief medical superintendents of women’s hospitals to enter real-time data about newborns into the mother-newborn tracking application (Mantra app) to monitor children’s health and child mortality.
Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, who also holds the portfolio of health minister, asked officials to implement this immediately and not to be careless as real-time data would help in planning ahead to reduce child mortality and improve welfare schemes.
Pathak said that the Mantra app has been developed to strengthen delivery and referral services at state medical health units and to make all data available in real time by digitising the labour room register. Pathak added that currently, data is being recorded on Mantra in 25,814 state health units, with 26.8 lakh institutional deliveries marked on this app until May 15.
He said that the implementation of data feeding under the Mantra app should be extended to other women’s institutions as well. A blueprint for this purpose should be prepared and officers should periodically review the programme and strive to overcome technical and other obstacles.
