Top 10 consistent and biggest wealth creators of Dalal Street

Private sector lender Kotak Mahindra Bank emerged as the consistent wealth creator of the past 25 years, according to Motilal Oswal 25th Annual Wealth Creation Study 2020. The report highlighted that the lender has delivered an annualised return of 25 per cent from 1995 to 2020.

“In the 23 three-year rolling periods between 1995 and 2020, Kotak Mahindra has outperformed the corresponding benchmark in 21 of those periods. It is closely followed by Berger Paints and HDFC with 20 periods of outperformance,” Motilal Oswal Financial Services said in the study.

Berger Paints and HDFC delivered CAGR returns of 24 per cent and 19 per cent, respectively, during the same period.

With an annualised return of between 20 per cent and 25 per cent, Pidilite Industries, Shree Cement, Honeywell Automation, Motherson Sumi, Asian Paints, Dabur India and Sun Pharmaceuticals stood among other consistent performers.

On the other hand, Reliance Industries emerged as the biggest wealth creator. It created a wealth of Rs 6.3 lakh crore between 1995 and 2020. The energy-to-telecom behemoth is significantly ahead of the second-ranked Hindustan Unilever which created Rs 4.9 lakh crore.
Reliance Industries has posted a cumulative net profit of Rs 3,78,400 crore during the past 25 years. It was followed by State Bank of India (Rs 1,72,700 crore), Infosys (Rs 15,20,00 crore) and ITC (Rs 1,20,600 crore).

Infosys and Bajaj Finance have a creditable performance of being among the top 10, both in terms of fastest and biggest wealth creators.

HDFC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, ITC, Asian Paints, Nestle Bajaj Finance and L&T were among the other biggest wealth creators.
