Sushant Singh Rajput case: CBI registers FIR against Rhea, her brother and four others

Mumbai: A day after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) received a notification from the central government to probe the death of Bollywood actor, Sushant Singh Rajput, the agency Thursday filed a First Information Report (FIR) against his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik, common friend Samuel Miranda and three others.

The agency has booked them under certain sections of the Indian Penal Code(IPC) including- section 306 (abetment to suicide), 341 (wronful restraint), 342 (wrongful confinement), 380 (theft in dwelling house), 406 (breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy).

“CBI has registered a case related to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput on the request of Bihar government and further notification from GoI and taken over the investigation of the case, earlier registered at police station Rajiv Nagar, Patna vide FIR no.241/2020 dated 25-7-2020. The case was registered against six accused and others,” the agency said in a statement.

According to sources, CBI will soon summon Rhea and others in the matter.

Last month, in his FIR to Bihar police, Rajput’s father KK Singh accused Chakraborty and six others of alleged abetment to suicide of his son. In his complaint, Singh had accused Chakraborty of having befriended his son in May, 2019 with the intention of furthering her own career. The father has also alleged that Rs.15 crore has been siphoned off from his son’s accounts.

Meanwhile the Enforcement Directorate (ED) which is probing a case of money laundering in the said matter summoned Chakraborty’s chartered accountant in the case.

Sources say the agency has examined two of her bank accounts and even studied her income tax returns.

“As per her ITR records, Chakraborty’s net worth rose in the last few years from Rs 10 lakh to 14 lakh. Despite a meagre net worth, she bought two prime residential properties in Mumbai. The source of funding of these properties needs to be examined and explained by her,” said an official privy to the development.

The central agency has summoned Chakraborty to join its probe on Friday. Summons for the same were sent through email but the agency is yet to hear from the TV actress.

Earlier the agency had questioned Rajput’s chartered accountant who has shared details of four bank accounts held by the actor.

The agency is also studying a couple of startups Rajput and Chakraborty owned. While Sushant was an additional director of Innsaei Ventures, Vividrage Rhealityx had Rajput, Chakraborty and her brother, Showik Shakraborty as directors; and Front India for World Foundation had Rajput and Shakraborty as directors.
