South Korea’s Parliament has voted to impeach President Yoon Suk-yeol following his controversial declaration of martial law on December 3.
The impeachment motion, supported by 204 lawmakers, effectively suspends Yoon from his presidential duties, pending a final decision from the Constitutional Court on whether to permanently remove him from office.
Until the court reaches a verdict, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, appointed by Yoon, will serve as the acting president, ensuring continuity in governance.
This impeachment marks a critical moment in South Korea’s political landscape, raising questions about the declaration of martial law and its implications for democracy in the country. The next steps will depend on the court’s ruling in the coming weeks.
