The 11 accused are: Murshid Hasan, Mosaraf Hoseen, Mainul Mandal, Lea Yean Ahmed, Najmus Sakib, Iyakub Biswas, Samim Ansari, Abu Sufian, Atiur Rahman, Al Mamun Kamal and Abdul Momin Mandal. They have been charged under different sections of the IPC, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Arms Act.
The case was registered based on information that an al-Qaeda-inspired module was operating in West Bengal and Kerala under Hasan’s leadership, an NIA official said.
The module was in an advanced stage of conspiracy to execute terrorist attacks, the NIA official alleged. One of the accused was arrested in West Bengal on August 26. Subsequently, NIA raided places in West Bengal and Kerala last September and arrested 9 more. The eleventh person was arrested on November 1.
