‘Is he secretly working for Dems?’: JD Vance stirs controversy while trying to target Kamala Harris, trolled for ‘lying’

Donald Trump‘s running mate and Ohio Senator J.D. Vance stirred controversy by connecting rising egg prices to the policies of Vice President Kamala Harris.

The incident occurred during a visit to a supermarket in Reading, Pennsylvania, where Vance, accompanied by his children, sought to highlight inflationary pressures affecting consumers.

However, his assertions quickly drew scrutiny as viewers pointed out a price board behind him listing eggs at $2.99, contradicting his claim that they were priced at $4.

Vance’s remarks came as he navigated the supermarket aisles, aiming to connect with voters ahead of the upcoming elections in November.

In the video, he stated, “Looking at the prices here, things are way too expensive because of Kamala Harris’ policies.” As his son pointed to a carton of eggs, Vance added, “Yes, buddy. Want some eggs? Let’s talk about eggs. Because these guys actually eat about 14 eggs every single morning.”

According to Vance’s claim “Eggs, when Kamala Harris took office, were short of $1.50 a dozen. Now a dozen eggs will cost you around $4,” framing his comments as part of a broader critique of the Biden administration.

“Pennsylvania actually has seen some of the worst grocery price increases of the entire nation, and again, it is because she cast a deciding vote on the Inflation Explosion Act,” Vance claimed further.

Social media users quickly countered Vance’s statements, with one remarking, “Is Vance really this stupid? It’s like he’s secretly working for the Dems at this point.”
Another user added, “Even in their own damn photo, it shows JD Vance is lying about the price of eggs.”

Others had similar reactions to Vance’s claim, with some American netizens using the opportunity to test their humour on the claim.

Despite the backlash, a report from SoFi Learn indicated that Vance’s broader point had some merit, as the average price of eggs in Pennsylvania was around $4.52, according to the Consumer Price Index.

Vance also criticised Harris for the rising costs of other staples, noting, “The price of ground beef went from just shy of $4 a pound to $6 a pound because Harris cast the deciding vote.”

Vance’s campaign trail in Pennsylvania has seen him draw significant crowds, notably during a recent event with Tucker Carlson.

Despite logistical challenges, including limited security equipment that delayed the event’s start by two hours, Vance engaged with attendees on issues facing American families.

He lamented the high interest rates making home ownership “way too expensive,” asserting that “everything is more expensive and people cannot afford to meet their basic needs because of Harris’s policies.”

As Vance continues his campaign, he is aligned with a national tour featuring prominent conservative figures, including Donald Trump Jr. and Marjorie Taylor Greene, aiming to galvanize support ahead of the critical November elections.
