The $100-200 (₹7,350-14,700) smartphones in India have always been the biggest category by volume but exponential growth of budget- and mid-range devices these days is primarily because of the economic impact and emergence of new use-cases that do not require high specifications.
New Delhi: Affordable smartphones are flying off the shelves as the economy opens up, with strong demand fuelled by new use cases such as e-learning needs, even as consumers cut back on discretionary spending.Phones priced at ₹8,000-15,000 cornered 51% of sales in July as against 34% a year ago and 45% in February, said Counterpoint Technology Market Research.
