UGC orders all universities to conduct final semester exams

The Home Ministry has approved the decision of the University Grants Commission to conduct exams, final year exams are compulsory for all universities.

University Grants Commission guidelines 2020: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has given a nod to the UGC to conduct university exams. “The Home Ministry in a letter to Union Higher Education Secretary, today permitted conduct of examinations by Universities and Institutions,” said a statement by the MHA.

The University Grants Commission has released the new guidelines according to which all universities have to conduct the final term examination. Moreover, universities and institutions can now conduct other examinations also as per the recent orders released by the UGC.

These orders have been supported by the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. The final year exams are compulsory to be conducted by the universities as per Academic Calendar for the Universities, and as per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

As of now, almost all central and state universities have had cancelled the examinations due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Sources say, “the green signal for universities to conduct examination is part of Unlock 2. Many of the state and central universities were waiting for the guidelines to conduct term-end examinations amid rising cases of coronavirus.”

Universities issued orders to cancel university exams 2020

Several state governments, including Telangana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, among others have had issued the orders to not conduct university exams this year. However, all the institutions were waiting for the final orders to be passed by the UGC.
