Rhea Chakraborty leaves Byculla jail after 28 days

Rhea Chakraborty is now out of the Byculla jail and has reached her residence. The actress was granted bail by the Bombay High Court today. She was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau on September 8 for alleged procurement of drugs. She was in judicial custody for 28 days. The NCB is probing the drug angle in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

Along with Rhea, her brother Showik Chakraborty was also arrested by the NCB. His bail plea was rejected by the Bombay High Court today and he will be in judicial custody till October 20, as ordered by a special NDPS Court.

After Rhea Chakraborty was granted bail, her lawyer, Satish Maneshinde said, “We are delighted by the order of the honourable Bombay High Court for granting bail to Rhea Chakraborty. Truth and justice have prevailed and ultimately the submissions on facts and law have been accepted by Justice Sarang V Kotwal.”

He added, “The arrest and custody of Rhea was totally unwarranted and beyond the reach of law. The hounding and witch hunt by three central agencies – the CBI, ED and NCB – of Rhea should come to an end. We remain committed to truth. Satya Meva Jayate.”

Rhea and Showik had applied for bail earlier also, which was rejected by a special NDPS court. They then moved the Bombay High Court for bail. On September 29, the court reserved decision on the bail pleas.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had earlier strongly opposed the bail pleas filed by Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik, and other co-accused in a drug case. The agency had told the Bombay High Court that a strong message needed to be sent out to the society, especially youngsters, to ensure they did not consume drugs.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) said the siblings and others arrested were “active members of a drug syndicate” and vowed to go to the roots of the case, an offshoot of the probe into filmstar Sushant Singh Rajput’s death in June.
