Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala made stinging remarks against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday. Spokesperson of the party, an agitated Surjewala said, “BJP government, Yogi government has lost all sense of shame. Their arrogance knows no bounds.”
“He went on to add, “Mr Yogi, we hope, we pray if you ever had a daughter and a son, then you would have known the pain of the gang-rape and the body being burnt in the middle of the night.”
Surjewala made the statement while walking alongside Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to meet the family of the 19-year-old Dalit girl from Hathras who died on Tuesday. After their convoy was halted at the Delhi-UP border, the Congress leaders accompanied by party workers decided to cover a distance of almost 100 km on foot.
Refering to lathi-charge on Congress workers by UP Police, Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “Is this the way? Police treats people inhumanely. Can they push around? Can they maaro dhakka to Shri Rahul Gandhi?”
“How many people will they arrest? How many times will they do lathi charge? They think they can suppress? Are they protecting rapists or is this a government which is supposed to beat up Opposition leaders? This is a government that protects rapists, sexual offenders and beats up people who fight for their rights,” Surjewala told India Today TV.
Responding to a question about why UP Police is trying to stop Congress workers from reaching Hathras, party spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “What are Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi doing? They are walking peacefully on the side of the road. They want to walk 140 km to Hathras, they want to go and share the pain and suffering of the Dalit Valmiki girl. Is that a crime in this country now?”
“Rapists roam scot-free, and Yogi government continues to suppress the voice of Opposition leaders,” Surjewala remarked.
“Yogi Adityanath ko sharma se doob kar mar jaana chahiye (Yogi Adityanath should drown in shame and die). Rapists are roaming free and Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are being lathi charged. We are Gandhi’s party, demonstrating peacefully,” Randeep Singh Surjewala told India Today TV on his way to Hathras in Uttar Pradesh.
