Toyota Urban Cruiser launch on September 23; will rival Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue

The Toyota Urban Cruiser will be launched in India on September 23. The new Urban Cruiser will mark Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s entry into the sub-4m SUV segment. The Toyota Urban Cruiser will rival the likes of Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and Ford EcoSport.

The pre-bookings for the Urban Cruiser had commenced on August 22. The compact SUV can be booked at a Toyota dealership or through the automaker’s official website for a token sum of Rs 11,000. Toyota Kirloskar Motor had recently announced that the customers pre-booking the Urban Cruiser before it is officially launched in India will get a no-cost periodic maintenance benefit for up to two years or 20,000km, whichever comes earlier, under a special ‘Respect Package’.

We are expecting the Toyota Urban Cruiser price in India to start from Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom), with the top-spec trim being close to Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom). The compact SUV is available in three variants — Mid, High and Premium. It boasts of features like 2-slat wedge-cut grille, dual-chamber LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs, LED fog lamps, split LED tail lamps, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, Smart Playcast touchscreen infotainment system, automatic AC, multi-function steering wheel, engine push start/stop button, electrochromic IRVM and cruise control.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser gets six monotone colour options — Sunny White, Iconic Grey, Suave Silver, Rustic Brown, Spunky Blue and Groovy Orange. There are three dualtone paint schemes — Rustic Brown with Sizzling Black roof, Groovy Orange with Sunny White roof and Spunky Blue with Sizzling Black roof. The Toyota Urban Cruiser has a dualtone dark brown-themed cabin.

Under the hood is a BS6-compliant, K-series, 4-cylinder, 1.5-litre petrol engine that develops 105hp of maximum power and 138Nm of peak torque. Among the transmission options are 5-speed MT and 4-speed AT. All the three variants (Mid, High and Premium) have an automatic transmission option. Also, the automatic trims are equipped with a smart hybrid system, unlike their manual counterparts.
