In the battle against coronavirus, many people are fighting against the odds and are working beyond the line of duty. Among them is young IPS officer Robin Kumar, who is winning hearts in Assam’s Barpeta district by performing dual duties as a corona warrior — a police officer and a doctor.
A 2013 batch IPS officer, Kumar, a specialist in medicine (MBBS, MD) and gold medalist, recently held a medical camp for the police personnel at Barpeta police reserve and conducted medical check-ups of as many as 95 police personnel.
The young man is also running a 50-bed Covid-19 care centre with four ICUs for cops and their family members at the Barpeta police reserve.
“During the Covid-19 pandemic, our doctors are overburdened and overstressed. So, I came forward to share their burden as a doctor. A medical camp was organised for cops who are above 50-years-old. I performed medical check-ups here to know if there is any symptom of Covid-19 among the cops. A total of 95 police personnel attended the camp,” Dr Robin Kumar told India Today.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and senior officials of Assam police have also appreciated Dr Robin Kumar for his exemplary service. In a tweet, Sarbananda Sonowal said- “An @assampolice warrior in the truest sense. Great gesture of service to humanity by Barpeta SP Dr Robin Kumar, utilising his skills to help doctors and heathcare workers in the fight against #COVID19.”
