The political controversy triggered in Maharashtra after Minister of State for Home (Urban) Yogesh Kadam allegedly overruled a police report to grant a gun licence to Sachin Ghaywal, the brother of notorious Pune gangster Nilesh Ghaywal. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anil Parab on Thursday (October 9, 2025), demanded to sack Mr. Kadam for misusing his position.

While criticising Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for supporting Ministers in their wrongdoings, Mr. Parab stated of meeting him and demanding to sack Mr. Kadam.

“The gang war is rising in Pune, currently atleast 70 gangs are active and involved in extortion, robbery, and murder crimes. To commit these crimes government support is needed. Police clearly mentioned in their report that (Sachin) Ghaywal has a criminal background and had several cases, in which he was acquitted citing lack of evidence. So, police asked denied approval for an arms license,” said Mr. Parab, while speaking to media persons.

He raised apprehensions over Mr. Fadnavis inactions against Ministers despite having proofs.

According to Mr. Parab, Sachin Ghaywal was granted permission after he appealed to Mr. Kadam, quasi-judicial authority for licence weapon.

NCP (SP) leader MLA Rohit Pawar also claimed that the Ghaywal brothers are close with the government, one of the reasons for pressuring government for permitting weapon license

Shiv Sena leader Mr. Kadam dismissed the claims and stated that the license was given based on the police report. He called the allegations “misleading” and “incorrect”.

He clarified, saying no criminal cases were pending against Sachin Ghaywal. Taking to X, he said, “On the date of the hearing no criminal cases were pending, so the application was approved after examining the court orders.”

The notorious criminal Nilesh Ghaywal is absconding and wanted in murder and extortion case.

Social activist Anjali Damania also alleged that Mr. Kadam cancelled the Pune commissioner’s order of January 20 denying Ghaywal weapon.
