If you’ve been considering a Samsung Frame TV, but are held back by the prices, the Hisense Canvas S7 is a viable alternative. For October Prime Day this week, various sizes of the artwork-like TV are on sale, including the 55-inch model that I’ve tested and generally recommend to people. Here’s the breakdown.

Like the Samsung Frame, the Hisense Canvas features a QLED screen that’s treated with a matte, anti-reflection layer and wooden borders to emulate the look and feel of artwork. And the illusion somehow works, as I noted in my review earlier this year.
The Canvas is a tad thicker and heavier than the Frame, as all of its components, including IO and ports, are tucked within the body of the TV — compared to the Frame’s One Connect Box that you set aside in a drawer or TV console — but it’s still very minimal in appearance.

The Canvas won’t deliver the greatest color control and volume, as I discovered while testing, but it’s the seamless switching between Art Mode (which comes with a collection of 120 preloaded images) and the Google TV interface that makes it such a versatile centerpiece. And for casually watching shows, movies, and sports broadcasts, the TV is more than acceptable.
Save for some Hisense bloatware, most of which are connectivity features that leverage your phone and the companion app, you’re looking at a relatively user-friendly interface, something the Samsung Frame TV lacks. You also don’t have to pay a subscription to get more artwork.
That’s to say, I highly recommend picking up the 55-inch variant of the Hisense Canvas TV; it’s the one that feels most like framed artwork you’d hang on a wall, and the smaller size makes it easier to mount. It also has the biggest discount of all the configurations, at $300 off.
