Man injured in leopard attack at Mampad

A leopard attacked a man while he was riding on his motorcycle at Naduvakkad, near Mampad, in the district on Sunday (March 9, 2025) morning. The man, Mohammed Ali, suffered minor scratch injuries on his thighs.

Mohammed Ali said he was going to a shop to buy some grocery when the leopard hopped onto him, trying to bite him. As he fell off the bike, the leopard escaped into the bushes.

He was admitted to hospital. Forest officials said they have launched a search for the leopard.

Mampad lies on the fringes of the Nilambur forests, and has reported the presence of wild animals, including leopards and elephants, before.
