Virender Sehwag trolls CSK: Axar Patel doing to MS Dhoni’s team what was done to him 4 years ago

Virender Sehwag on Saturday was at his comical best on social media as he praised Delhi Capitals spinner Axar Patel for his cameo against Chennai Super Kings in Match 34 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.

Axar Patel hit 20 runs off four balls in the final over of the match against MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings to record an improbable win for the team while they were chasing 180 for victory at Sharjah.

Interestingly, Axar Patel was hit for 23 runs in the final over of the match by MS Dhoni in a match which resulted in CSK’s win in 2016. 4 years later he had his revenge as DC consolidated their position at the top of the IPL 2020 table.

Axar Patel smashed three sixes in the last over to take Delhi Capitals home but it was all about Shikhar Dhawan – his maiden IPL ton and three spilled chances which came back to hurt CSK- in Saturday’s evening match. With the win, DC reclaim the top spot on the points table with 7 wins from 9 matches as the Delhi completed a convincing double over a side to whom they had lost quite a few in the past.

Chasing 180 for victory, Delhi Capitals got off to a poor start as DC opener Prithvi Shaw once again failed to trouble the scoreboard and was caught behind in the very first over off Deepak Chahar. Chahar struck twice in the powerplay, picking up the wickets of Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane departed for 8, thanks to a stunning catch from Sam Curran at the point.

Shikhar Dhawan, unperturbed by loss of partners, kept scoring boundaries at will at the other end and looked to take the game away with a solid 68-run stand with Shreyas Iyer before Dwayne Bravo got rid of DC skipper in the 12th over. Marcus Stoinis was the next DC batsman to depart as he was caught by Rayudu off Shardul Thakur before scoring quickfire 24 off just 14 balls.

Shikhar Dhawan slammed his first Indian Premier League (IPL) hundred after playing 167 matches in the league. After Shaw’s departure in the first over, he partnered with Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Marcus Stoinis, Alex Carrey and Axar Patel for 26, 68 and 43, 22 and 26* runs respectively.

Earlier, Faf Du Plessis hit his fourth fifty of the season before Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja produced stunning cameos as a collective batting effort helped Chennai Super Kings post 179 for four against Delhi Capitals.
