  • Sehwag says SRH have no batting depth after David Warner and Johnny Bairstow
  • SRH lost to KKR by 7 wickets (12 balls remaining) on Saturday

David Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad faced their second defeat of the Indian Premier League 2020 season, making it 0-2 so far, against Dinesh Karthik’s Kolkata Knight Riders at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, September 26. Warner on winning the toss opted to bat first and the team struggled to perform with only Manish Pandey scoring a fifty after Warner was dismissed for 36 off 30 balls.

Sehwag, on his new series ‘Viru Ki Baithak’, also slipped in praise for Manish Pandey who top-scored for SRH with 51 off 38. He said that Pandey and Warner had just started consolidating the innings when ‘architect’ Varun Chakravarthy got rid of Warner. Sehwag praised Dinesh Karthik’s captaincy as the KKR skipper relied on his big players for ‘lead roles’ like entrusting Pat Cummins with the ball despite his failure in the last game against Mumbai Indians.

Chasing 143, KKR lost Narine early and the successive wickets of Nitish Rana (26 off 13) and DK (0 off 3) left them shaky at 53/3 off 6.2 overs. However, Shubman Gill and Eoin Morgan’s unbeaten partnership of 92 runs steered KKR’s innings to the target with 2 overs remaining. Gill scored an unbeaten 62-ball 70 while Eoin Morgan’s 29-ball 42 as equally significant in the 7-wicket win for KKR.

Sunrisers Hyderabad had lost their IPL 2020 opener against Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore, by 10 runs, on September 21.
