Wishes have been pouring in for the fastest Indian bowler to claim 100 wickets in ODIs Mohammed Shami as he celebrates his 30th birthday on Thursday, September 3.

Shami, who will be leading Kings XI Punjab’s pace attack in the IPL 2020 in UAE, is an integral part of India’s phenomenal pace quartet along with Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Umesh Yadav.

Shami is only the fifth Indian pacer to take five wickets in the fourth innings of a Test after Karsan Ghavri, Kapil Dev, Madan Lal and Javagal Srinath. Shami is also the second-highest wicket-taker at ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 and 2019.

Whether it’s his splendid Test spells in England and Australia or a magnificent hat-trick to dismantle Afghanistan in the World Cup 2019, Shami and breakthroughs go hand in hand.

With 144 wickets from 77 ODIs at an average of 25.4 and a strike rate of 27.2, Shami’s best is yet to come in white-ball cricket.

India captain Virat Kohli took to social media on Thursday to extend birthday wishes to his star pacer Mohammed Shami. Kohli’s tweet read, “Happy b’ day Shami @MdShami11. Mehnat aur bowling dono karte raho daba ke.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted a video of Shami’s spell of 5/35 against South Africa in 2019 and wished him a happy birthday.
