Vikas Dubey was finally arrested on Thursday morning from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh. He was absconding since the last week after the killing of eight policemen in Kanpur.
Ujjain Collector Ashish Singh said: “Vikas Dubey was going to Ujjain Mahakal temple when he was identified by security personnel. Police were informed and he confessed his identity after being pushed for it. He has been apprehended by the police and his interrogation is underway.”
Earlier, two aides of gangster Vikas Dubey were killed in separate encounters in Uttar Pradesh. One of them, Prabhat Mishra, died after police shot him dead in an escape attempt. On Wednesday, the Uttar Pradesh Police killed Amar Dubey, a close aide of Vikas Dubey in an encounter in Hamirpur.
Vikas Dubey has a long criminal history sheet of more than 60 cases registered against him. Himself a local politician, Vikas Dubey wanted to become an MLA and had already served in Zilla Panchayat positions. His wife too has done the same.
