Gangster Vikas Dubey was on Friday killed in an encounter in Kanpur after his arrest yesterday from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh. The gangster had been on the run after eight Uttar Pradesh police men were killed in an ambush orchestrated by him and his men.
Police said the gangster was killed in an encounter after he tried fleeing on reaching Kanpur. The encounter took place at Sachendi border in Kanpur. Two police constables have also sustained injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries and declared dead officially.

The history-sheeter, facing 60 criminal cases, had received a tip-off about the police team coming to arrest him. As the police team was about to reach the hideout of the criminal, eight were killed in the firing.

Police officials also said the surveillance team was scanning over 500 mobile phones and efforts were on to retrieve information pertaining to Dubey.
An initial cash reward of Rs 50,000 was announced for providing information about him. Chaubeypur Station Officer (SO) Vinay Tiwari, suspected of tipping Dubey, was also suspended.
Police on July 5 said Vikas Dubey illegally used government vehicle to roam around. Lucknow police had recovered the government vehicle from brother’s house.
Police said Dubey used to use this vehicle to roam around to give the impression that it was provided to him by the government.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi said “no one is safe in UP’s jungle raj” and slammed the UP government for the encounter.
On the same day, Dubey’s mother, Sarla Devi, told authorities to “shoot him wherever he is”.
Police also arrested Vikas Dubey’s accomplice Daya Shankar Agnihotri after he sustained a bullet injury.
Vikas Dubey’s aide Daya Shankar Agnihortri confirmed to police that Dubey had received a phone call, before the police team reached Bikru village to arrest the gangster.
It was revealed that Chaubeypur Station Officer Vinay Tiwari told linemen to cut off power during the ambush to shield cops from firing.
A probe initiated against all Chaubeypur police station cops. Three cops were suspended as well. The reward amount for information on Dubey’s whereabouts increased to Rs 2.5 lakh.
Police arrest Vikas Dubey’s daughter-in-law, neighbour and maid. The three were identified as Shama, Suresh Verma and Rekha respectively.
According to the police, the three were hand-in-glove with Dubey and his henchmen when the shootout occurred at the criminal’s residence in Bikru village of Kanpur Dehat.
A probe was initiated against 200 cops for links with the Kanpur gangsters.
Vikas Dubey gives UP Police another slip as he fled from a Faridabad hotel before cops arrived. When an STF team received information about his whereabouts they raided the hotel but the history-sheeter had fled the scene by then.
The police, however, reportedly arrested one of his accomplices who confirmed that Vikas Dubey was with him at the Faridabad hotel. He close aide Amar Dubey was also killed by police in an encounter.
The bounty on Vikas Dubey’s head was increased to Rs 5 lakh. Chaubeypur SHO and SI arrested from tipping off the gangster. On the same day, Vikas Dubey’s brother-in-law was also detained in Madhya Pradesh.
Two more aides of Vikas Dubey killed by police. The two aides of Vikas Dubey, identified as Prabhat Mishra and Ranbir Shukla, were shot dead in separate encounters as they tried to flee, the UP Police said.
Vikas Dubey is also arrested dramatically from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh after six days. He was arrested from outside Mahakal temple in Ujjain. Dubey again told police that he had, in fact, received a tip-off from police sources about the raid in Kanpur.
During police interrogation, he had revealed that he fired upon the police as he feared the force was coming to encounter him. Vikas Dubey also revealed that he had dumped the bodies of the policemen who were killed in the encounter and had planned to set them ablaze to destroy evidence, But he did not get time.
UP police take custody of the gangster and prepare to bring him to Kanpur from MP. Vikas Dubey’s wife, son and servant were also arrested by Lucknow police.
Vikas Dubey’s wife Richa Dubey was arrested from her Krishna Nagar residence on Thursday evening by a team of the Special Task Force (STF) on charges of harbouring the gangster and conniving with him.
Gangster Vikas Dubey, who was arrested in Ujjain on Thursday, was killed in an encounter early on Friday morning after being brought to Kanpur.
On Friday morning, Vikas Dubey was being brought back to Kanpur by the Uttar Pradesh Police STF when a vehicle of the police convoy overturned.
As the car overturned, Vikas Dubey allegedly tried to flee, when he was shot at by the police.
