The Indian Army has destroyed multiple Pakistani posts and terrorist launch pads near the Jammu region, which were being used to launch tube-launched drones into Indian territory, according to defence sources.
The action comes amid heightened tensions along the border following repeated drone incursions and shelling from across the Line of Control.
Pakistan launched a series of drone attacks on Friday, targeting nearly 26 cities across Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat for the second consecutive day. Among the targets was an air base in Awantipora, which, along with other attempted strikes, was successfully thwarted by Indian defence systems. Sources said that 15-20 blasts were heard during attempts to destroy the drone.
Multiple drones were reported over Jammu, Samba, Rajouri, Pathankot, Amritsar, Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Pokhran, while heavy artillery exchanges were witnessed along the Line of Control in areas such as Kupwara, Poonch, Uri, Nowgam, and Handwara.
India on Friday said Pakistan had launched between 300 and 400 Turkish drones across locations from Leh to Sir Creek in its failed attempt to target Indian military installations and also accused that country of using its civilian planes as a “shield” for its aerial attacks, endangering the flights.
Sources said an armed drone targeted a civilian area in Ferozepur, resulting in severe injuries to members of a family. The injured have been provided medical assistance.
Around 15 drones were spotted across five areas in Amritsar late on Friday, prompting a red alert. India’s air defence system neutralised most drones, sources said. Authorities in Amritsar advised civilians to remain indoors amid the security threat.
A drone was noticed flying over the Srinagar airport at around 9 pm, prompting a blackout to neutralise the attack, officials were quoted as saying by news agency PTI. The drone was shot down by the military.
