Unhappy with marriage, woman poisons, strangulates husband in Delhi, tries to mislead police

The Delhi Police on Thursday arrested a woman for allegedly murdering her husband with the help of her lover.

She also tried to mislead investigators by saying that the man died due to his chronic illness. In contrast to her statement, an MLC (medico-legal case) by the hospital mentioned: “hanging”. The accused had told doctors that the man had committed suicide.

Police suspected the wife’s involvement in the crime as she kept on changing her statements to investigators during the questioning.

On rigorous interrogation, the accused Priyanka (30) confessed that she hatched a plan with her boyfriend to kill her husband.

Police said that the woman and her husband had a 20-year age difference and the couple did not have any child.

The woman told police that due age difference, she was not happy with her marriage and therefore, hatched a plan, with one Veeru Burma and Karan, to murder her husband.

She allegedly had an extra-marital affair with Burma and wanted to marry him, while Karan was staying with the woman and her husband in their house in Budh Vihar area, police said.

The woman, with the help of Karan, conspired to kill her husband by mixing his food with doses of Poison. On August 18, when the victim started losing his consciousness and felt dizziness and anxiety after eating the food, Priyanka and Karan used a cloth to strangulate the man.

The victim was rushed to the Brahm Shakti Hospital in Budh Vihar. Investigation officers, along with staff, reached the hospital and collected the MLC which mentioned “hanging”. A ligature mark was also visible on the neck of the deceased. However, doctors alerted the police.

After a series of interrogations, police arrested Priyanka and Karan, while Veeru Burma is still absconding.

Investigation revealed that the woman also wanted to get the property of her husband transferred in her name. According to her in-laws, the woman would often involve in unnecessary fights with her husband.

Priyanka revealed that she had met Veeru Burma through her sister Payal in Muradnagar. She said she would often visit Barma’s home, where she also met his younger brother Karan.

The woman’s husband worked in Mayapuri Industrial area in Delhi, police said
