Telangana Excise Department receives 1,346 applications for new bar licences

The Telangana Excise and Prohibition Department received 1,346 applications for setting up bars in 25 notified locations across the State. The move comes after the department invited new bar licences to replace previously closed establishments, with a deadline set for April 26.

As per the data shared by the department, Warangal emerged as the most sought after location, with the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) receiving as many as 491 applications for four notified bars. Meerpet in Saroornagar also saw significant interest, with 200 applications submitted for a single notified location.

Among other districts, Miryalaguda in Nalgonda district received 226 applications for one notified bar while Khammam recorded 145 applications for two notified bars. Adilabad district reported 61 applications for three notified locations.

In Mancherial, 15 applications were received in the municipal area and a single application in Bellampally. Jagtial’s Korutla reported 24 applications, while Mahabubnagar town and Makthal received 56 and 15 applications respectively. Alampur in Jogulamba Gadwal registered four applications.

In Achampet of Nagarkurnool, two notified bars attracted 18 applications. Medak town received 20 applications for one notified bar, while Nizamabad town saw 53 applications across three bars and Armoor registered eight applications for one bar. Kodangal in Vikarabad district attracted nine applications.

Excise officials will now evaluate the submissions to ensure they meet the required guidelines, with an emphasis on maintaining transparency during the allotment process. Meanwhile, applications for 15 bars located in urban areas, which remained unopened owing to the MLC elections for local bodies under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), will be opened shortly.
