T20 World Cup: India should be wary of ‘wounded’ tiger Pakistan, says Navjot Sidhu

India are playing Pakistan in their second Group A clash in New York on Sunday, 9 June. Pakistan come into the match after their shock loss against USA in Texas. The 2022 finalists lost in the Super Over vs the co-hosts, who are playing their first-ever T20 World Cup. While many believe that Pakistan are going to be low in confidence against the Indian tea, former India cricketer Navjot Sindh Sidhu has warned that Pakistan should not be counted out from the fixture.

Speaking on Star Sports ahead of the match, Sidhu said that Pakistan were like wounded tigers and had the ability to beat any team on their day. Sidhu reminded the fans of Pakistan’s 2017 and 2021 victories over India where the team had outplayed the Men in Blue.

“Look, do not count Pakistan out. Because, see, they are like a wounded tiger. Very mercurial. And on that given day, they can beat anybody in this world. If I have to refresh your memory, go back to 2017, you know, Fakhar. Now he’s become Fikar because at that time he really was Fakhar. He scored 100 won them again and then the partnership between Babar and Rizwan (2021) without the loss (of a wicket), they scored 150. So do not count them out,” Navjot Sindhu said on Star Sports.

India dominated Ireland as expected in their tournament opener. The fast bowlers were brilliant against the Irish side and bowled them out for 96 at the Nassau County Stadium in New York. Arhsdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Hardik Pandya were on the money as they exploited the uneven bounce in New York.

On the day, rain delayed the toss at the Nassau County Stadium. It is expected that the match might turn out to be a shootout between the bowlers of the two sides.
