Sushant Singh Rajput was murdered, believes family: Lawyer Vikas Singh

Sushant Singh Rajput’s family lawyer, Vikas Singh, said in a press conference today that the late actor’s family believes he was murdered, even though in their initial FIR, filed in Patna’s Rajiv Nagar Police Station, they had mentioned abetment to suicide. They now believe it was something bigger, and possibly a murder. The said FIR was filed by Sushant’s father KK Singh against Rhea Chakraborty and her family members in Bihar after he felt that the Mumbai Police wasn’t probing the case properly.

According to Vikas Singh, at first, it seemed to Sushant’s family that the actor was pushed to commit suicide, which was mentioned in the FIR. However, now the family believes it wasn’t just a provocation, and perhaps he was murdered. Vikas Singh also said that the equations, in this case, have changed again.

Vikas Singh further claimed that the Mumbai Police never gave him or Sushant’s family a copy of the statements they had recorded. Had they done so, the case could have taken a different course, said Singh. At the same time, many questions are also being raised about the language in which the statement was written. In addition, the statement Mumbai Police had issued was in Marathi, and Sushant Singh Rajput’s family did not understand the language, said Vikas Singh. The statements were presented in a sealed envelope to the Supreme Court.

In the presser, family lawyer Vikas Singh also revealed that Sushant Singh Rajput’s family wasn’t happy with the way their statements were recorded by the Mumbai Police. Sushant Singh Rajput’s sisters, for example, were forced to sign the statements which were written in Marathi, said Vikash Singh. Hence, they ‘did not know what was being written’, claimed Singh.

In their statements to the Mumbai Police, the actor’s sisters had said that Sushant was seeing a psychiatrist in 2019.

Vikas Singh also spoke about the ‘media campaign’ running to malign Sushant Singh Rajput’s name and how that has upset the actor’s father and sisters. He said, “I met Sushant Singh Rajput’s three sisters this morning and they were upset that a campaign to malign their family image is being carried out by the media. Our FIR has been in the public domain from the beginning. In spite of what has been said in the FIR, it’s being said the family knew about his depression and that he was bipolar and it was being concealed. In the FIR, it is written that his mental health was fine until 2019.”

Reiterating that Sushant’s condition worsened after Rhea came into his life, Vikas Singh said, “The FIR clearly says that Sushant started having mental problems after Rhea came in his life. The FIR says Rhea was responsible for his problem, because of which he [Sushant] used to be anxious. The files of whatever treatment she [Rhea] was getting done were never given to the family. The prescriptions that were shared with the family just mentioned tablets and not the disease. It’s under these circumstances that when Rhea left Sushant, the sister [Priyanka], who was also taking medicines for anxiety, sent him a prescription. A campaign is being carried on relentlessly, I was told to confine my presser to only channels who are carrying story correctly. But every channel has the right to say what they want to say.”

Vikas Singh also appealed on behalf of Sushant Singh Rajput’s family that fake reports not be spread in the name of the late actor, which only adds to the suffering fo the grieving family, “Here is an appeal of the family, that please don’t increase the suffering of the grieved family. Please don’t add to their sufferings by spreading canards,” Singh said.

Finally, Vikas Singh said that no film, serial or book should be written without the consent of the actor’s father, and necessary action will be taken against those who do. “I also want to inform everyone that the actor’s father and sisters have taken a conscious decision that no film, serial, book, should be written without consent of father, or without the script being shown to the father. In spite of this, if anyone feels he/she can go ahead and do something contrary to what I just informed, he/she will do that at his own peril and appropriate action will be taken to ensure that the effort is legally thwarted,” Vikas Singh said.

Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Bandra, Mumbai apartment on June 14.
