Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav tested negative for the novel coronavirus on Sunday.

Samples of Lalu Yadav and his three aids were collected on Saturday as a preventive measure to rule out the possibility of coronavirus.

Doctors attending him and the RJD camp have heaved a sigh of relief after Lalu Yadav tested negative for the coronavirus infection.

Lalu Prasad Yadav and his 3 attendants at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) were tested for Covid-19.

Dr Umesh Prasad, who attends Lalu said that amid the surge and spike in coronavirus cases, the hospital conducted a test on Lalu Yadav as a preventive and safety measure. He was admitted to a private ward of RIMS.

Lalu Prasad has been convicted in four fodder scam cases and was awarded up to 14 years of imprisonment. He is a Hypertension patient and has been diabetic for a long time. His kidney functioning has also been a cause of concern. He has currently been undergoing treatment at RIMS.

Lalu’s family had raised concern over his safety many times in the recent past. His son had categorically mentioned earlier that his father’s health condition is in the public domain and he is prone and more susceptible than a normal individual to the infection being a diabetic and kidney patient.

Earlier, pictures of Lalu Prasad Yadav with Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta and Congress spokesperson Shamsher Alam had sparked a debate with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleging that Lalu Prasad Yadav violated the jail manual by conducting a “darbar”.
