Meta (formerly known as Facebook) has developed a pair of smart glasses in partnership with Ray-Ban. These glasses are equipped with advanced technology, including artificial intelligence (AI) features. The company has announced that they will allow some people to try out the most exciting AI functions of these glasses, but it’s an early trial phase for now.
The glasses have special AI-powered capabilities that use cameras and microphones built into them. These features enable the glasses to understand and interpret what they “see” and “hear.” For example, the AI assistant inside the glasses can analyze the surroundings through the camera and microphone and then provide information or assistance based on what it observes or hears.
Let’s say you’re wearing these smart glasses, and you want to know about a landmark you’re looking at. The glasses’ AI can identify the landmark through the camera and give you information about it right in front of your eyes. Similarly, if you ask a question or need help while wearing the glasses, the AI assistant can understand your voice commands through the microphone and provide relevant information or perform tasks for you.
This early test phase will allow a limited number of people to experience and explore these AI features, which could potentially change how we interact with technology in our daily lives.
Mark Zuckerberg showed in an Instagram video how he used the glasses’ new features. He held up a shirt and asked the glasses to suggest pants that would go well with it. The glasses described the shirt and recommended a few pants options that might match. Additionally, he demonstrated the glasses’ AI assistant by using it to translate text and display some image captions.
