MBU students take a ‘STEP’ forward in English proficiency

A total of 2,220 students of Mohan Babu University (MBU) in Tirupati have taken the Standardised Test of English Proficiency (STEP) programme being offered by The Hindu Group and completed the same.

The university conducted a certification event titled ‘STEP Ahead: Celebrating excellence in English proficiency’ on its campus on Friday, where the students received the certificates.

While 2% of students were at B2 level and above in the pre-assessment, the post-assessment showed a phenomenal 99% achieving B2 level and above. Among them, 952 students reached the C1 level and 23 attained the highest C2 level, showing extraordinary language proficiency.

Kola Triveda from CSE (AI and Machine Learning) department topped the STEP exam by scoring 11 out of 12 points. She was awarded a STEP certificate, a detailed assessment report and a cash prize of ₹5,000.

MBU Provost Prof. Nagaraj Ramrao, Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. Karunakaran, Chief Growth and Strategy Officer Vikas Singh, Registrar Dr. K. Saradhi and Dean (Freshman) Dr. N. Gireesh and STEP Coordinator and Deputy Dean Dr. M. Balaji participated in the ceremony.

The Hindu’s National Sales Head (STEP) Saikrishnan Gopalaramanan gave away the certificates and praised MBU’s commitment to fostering global competence and communication skills among students.

Mr. Vikas Singh gave a presentation on the importance of English and added how the STEP course equipped the students with the skills necessary for academic success and global communication.

The university authorities thanked Chancellor M. Mohan Babu, Pro-Chancellor Vishnu Manchu and Executive Director Vinay Maheshwari for providing strategic guidance and inspiring initiative to take the students’ skills a step further.
