IPL 2020: This victory will give us confidence, says Rohit Sharma as MI crush KKR

Elated with Mumbai Indians 8-wicket win, the team’s skipper Rohit Sharma called his side’s performance “special” in Abu Dhabi on Friday. Mumbai Indians shined in all departments of the game to pip Delhi Capitals on the top of the 8-team IPL 2020 points table.

“It’s special to chase and win, gives us plenty of confidence. We didn’t chase a lot in the first half (of the tournament), think we were clinical with both bat and ball, the expected performance was there,” Rohit Sharma said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

“I thought we turned up very well, right from the start. I believe a lot in match-ups, we have got success as a team (doing it) – understanding the match-ups is important but we need to be instinctive at times.

“Krunal and Rahul also bowled to Russell, I took a chance with the ball gripping and turning, but I knew Bumrah was the go-to guy against him.

“I prefer batting with him (de Kock), he’s very straightforward, likes to take on the bowler from the word go – but I usually like to assess the situation. Will let him play the way he wants to, don’t want to put any pressure on him.

“This tournament is very funny, can’t take the foot off the pedal at any time, we have seen teams lose at times. The guys are very hungry, they haven’t played a lot over the last six months – be it Ishan or Hardik, they want to play and they want to win, gives us plenty of confidence,” Rohit Sharma added.

Chasing a below-par target of 149, Mumbai India got off to a solid start as skipper Rohit Sharma (35) added 94 runs for the opening wicket with opener Quinton de Kock (78*), before getting dismissed by young KKR pacer Shivam Mavi. Suryakumar Yadav was the next MI batsman to get dismissed but de Kock and Hardik Pandya forged an unbeaten 38-run stand for 3rd wicket to help Mumbai seal an 8-wicket win over KKR.

Earlier, KKR managed to drag themselves to 148/5 thanks to an unbeaten 87-run stand between Pat Cummins and Morgan after a top-order collapse that left KKR reeling on 61/5 in the 11th over. Morgan and Dinesh Karthik swapped places on the batting order with Karthik coming in at No. 4, only to be dismissed by Rahul Chahar for just four runs.
