IPL 2020: My heart keeps reaching new limits with every game, says KL Rahul after KXIP beat DC

Kings XI Punjab captain KL Rahul was a relieved man after his team completed a comprehensive win over Delhi Capitals in Match 38 of the Indian Premier League 2020 to keep their campaign alive this season.

Unlike their last two games, KXIP had no trouble in finishing off their run chase of 165 in 19 overs to register their third 4th win this season. KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal suffered a rare failure but crucial knocks from Nicholas Pooran (53) and Glenn Maxwell got them over the finish line.

KXIP have now defeated the top 3 teams in succession and moved up to 5th place on the IPL 2020 points table.

“My heart keeps reaching new limits every game but yeah it is nice to finish it in the 19th over for once.

“I did wonder, I won’t lie, especially when you are playing with six batsmen and an allrounder. It is something every team talks about: the set batsman has to finish off the game. One of the top four does that. We have to correct that,” Rahul said after the match. (KXIP vs DC, IPL 2020 Match 38: Highlights)

He also praised his bowling attack which restricted Delhi Capitals to 164 for 5 despite Shikhar Dhawan scoring 106 not out. He was the lone batsman who could face up to the likes of Mohammed Shami, Jimmy Neesham, among others while the rest of the DC batsmen failed to fire on a slow pitch in Dubai.

Shami was the pick of the bowlers once again with 2 wickets for 28 runs while Neesham, Glenn Maxwell and Murugan Ashwin bagged a wicket each for KXIP.

“They have been bowling really well. Shami obviously is coming in with confidence from the last game. He is our senior bowler, and an international, and he is getting better and better every game. Arshdeep bowled two overs in the Powerplay and one at the death. To nail six out of six yorkers is great. Shows you the work he and the coaches have been putting in,” Rahul said.

Another player who’s performance impressed Rahul was that of Maxwell. The Australian all-rounder was under tremendous pressure to perform with the bat after repeated failures but finally came good in this crunch game with a crucial 32 off 24 balls.

“Glenn is a great team man. He has been batting well in the nets. It was important to back him. It was good to see him get time in the middle. Hopefully he carries this good work into the coming games,” Rahul said.

DC will next face Kolkata Knight Riders in a day game on October 24 in Abu Dhabi while KXIP will lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad in Dubai in the 2nd match on Saturday.
