IPL 2020: Few days more, RCB skipper Virat Kohli excited ahead of opener against SRH on September 21

IPL’s 13th edition is just knocking on the door and this means RCB will again try to give it their all to win their maiden title in the cash-rich league. RCB players arrived in UAE on August 21 and after completing their mandatory 6-day quarantine period have started their training in Dubai.

Virat Kohli stepped inside the practice nets after five months of lockdown and admitted that he was “very scared” ahead of his first training session. Virat Kohli timed his pull shot wonderfully well as he hit the nets after close to 5 months of being restricted indoors in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

In one of his other training session Virat Kohli played a competitive football match with his teammates and got appreciated for his skills by non other then England captain and Tottenham star Harry Kane.

Now, in a static video posted by Virat Kohli on Wednesday, the RCB skipper can be seen looking all set with a lot of fire in his eyes before the Bangalore-based franchise’s first match against SRH on September 21.

“Another productive day training. A few days more,” Kohli has captioned the static video, which shoes him holding a bat each in his hands.

While the RCB is one of the most celebrated IPL teams, the tragedy is that they have never been able to claim an IPL title. Needless to say, the pressure is on the team and it was acknowledged by RCB chairman Sanjeev Churiwala. However, he also backed Kohli as the captain and attested that he would go on to lead the franchise. While, due to the hiatus that COVID-19 caused, many players have been out of practice, Kohli’s fitness shows that RCB have an advantage over other teams.

“We definitely feel it will,” Virat Kohli said when asked if he feels ‘the miracle’ will happen at IPL 2020. “We are not going to think of what-ifs, we know what we can do as a team. And we’re just very, very keen and hungry to go out there and do it.”

The 2020 edition of the marquee T20 league was originally supposed to start on March 29 in India. However, due to the unforeseen COVID-19 pandemic, the season was indefinitely postponed by the ICC. It was only after the ICC’s announcement of the T20 World Cup getting cancelled this year that the BCCI got the September-October for staging the IPL. The tournament is now supposed to commence on September 19 in the UAE and all teams have begun their camps in preparation for the competition. BCCI’s strict coronavirus protocol is in place to execute the IPL 2020 successfully amid the pandemic.

“We are all here to play cricket…The bio-bubble needs to be respected at all times for the tournament to happen eventually. We are not here to have fun and roam around and you know say that ‘I want to hang out in Dubai’,” Kohli had said about the bio-secure bubble.

“That is not the time we are living in. Accept the phase that we are going through and understand the privilege that we have, just to be a part of the IPL. Everyone should accept that and not behave in a manner which situation doesn’t require them to,” he had added.

“A couple of months back you couldn’t imagine that you will have IPL firstly… When we had our practice session yesterday, I realized how long it has been. When I was heading to the practice session, I felt nervous.”
