Over 100 Covid-19 patients, who were being treated in a dilapidated building at the Darbhanga Medical College Hospital in Bihar, have been shifted to a safer location.

This comes days after India Today TV reported that the hospital authorities were putting the patient’s lives at risk by treating them in a building on the verge of collapse. After India Today’s ground report highlighting the crumbling health infrastructure in the district, the authorities have finally acted and shifted patients to a safer location.

Reacting to the report, former Union minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram had also attacked Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He had questioned the CM over the dilapidated condition of the government hospital and asked if, in the last 15 years, he had ever visited the district.

Acting on the report, the Bihar government instructed the hospital administration to vacate the crumbling block immediately. The patients have now been shifted to a different block and are receiving treatment in a safe environment.

Interestingly, the building construction department of the Bihar government had told the hospital authorities to vacate the dilapidated building several times over the last 10 years. But the hospital authorities had ignored the directions and continued to treat patients in life-threatening conditions.
