The Income Tax Department on Thursday carried out raids at Sadakat Aashram, state headquarter of Bihar Congress, in Patna and recovered cash worth Rs 8.5 lakh from a car parked inside the office premises.

I-T officials detained Ashutosh, believed to be a Congress worker from whose car the cash was recovered.

According to sources, raids were carried out at the Congress office after the I-T Department received a tip-off in this regard. Income Tax officials also questioned Bihar Congress in charge Shakti Singh Gohil and national media in-charge Randeep Surjewala in connection with the cash recovered as they were present at the Congress office then.

Shakti Singh Gohil has strongly opposed the I-T raids carried out at Sadakat Ashram claiming that it was done with the mala fide intention to implicate Congress wrongfully.

Gohil claimed that the raids were carried out at the instructions of the BJP-JD(U) government.

“BJP-JDU government knows it is losing elections in Bihar and that is why they are indulging in this kind exercise. The person from whose car the cash was recovered is not associated with us and that is why we don’t know who the cash and car belongs to,” Shakti Singh Gohil said.

The Income Tax Department is tight-lipped about this raid.
