Following the UP government’s recommendation, the CBI has been directed by the central government to take over the probe into the alleged gangrape and death of a 19-year-old Dalit girl from Boolgarhi village in Hathras.

Hathras case will now be probed by India’s apex investigative body, the CBI. The Central Bureau of Investigation took over the probe into a 19-year-old Dalit girl’s alleged gangrape death on Saturday. A resident of Boolgarhi village in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras, the girl died at Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital on September 29.
The Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had recommended a CBI probe into the Hathras case. A letter was also sent in this regard to the central government.
On Saturday, the Centre’s Department of Personnel and Training issued a notification allowing CBI to take over the investigation into the Hathras case. A team of the apex investigative agency is expected to initiate its probe into the Hathras case in the coming days.
