‘GOAT’ director justifies 3-hour runtime for Thalapathy Vijay’s film

‘The Greatest of All Time’ aka ‘GOAT’, starring Thalapathy Vijay, has a runtime of three hours and three minutes. In a recent interview, director Venkat Prabhu justified the lengthy runtime and promised a fun-filled commercial entertainer for fans. ‘GOAT’ will hit theatres on September 5 in multiple languages amid massive expectations. This is Vijay’s penultimate film before he enters politics full-time.

Director Venkat Prabhu, in an interview with Cineulagam, expressed his thoughts about the three-hour runtime of ‘GOAT’. Admitting that ‘GOAT’ is a fast-paced film, he mentioned the discussion about the film’s runtime within the team.

He said that the team was initially apprehensive about the runtime as it exceeded three hours. Venkat Prabhu, however, explained the necessity to stick to the runtime to narrate ‘GOAT’s’ story. He also stated that it was impossible to tell an elaborate story within three hours.

Venkat Prabhu promised that ‘GOAT’ would be entertaining and fast-paced. When he explained his stance, Vijay, the directorial team and the producers were convinced by the runtime.

Initially, director Venkat Prabhu had sent ‘GOAT’ to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a runtime of 2 hours 59 minutes. The film was given a U/A certificate. Then, the filmmaker added a three-minute blooper video – which is a regular in all his films – and got it recensored.

Here’s the trailer:

Directed by Venkat Prabhu, ‘GOAT’ is an action drama that features Vijay in two roles. Prashanth, Prabhudheva, Mohan, Ajmal Ameer, Jayaram, Sneha, Laila, Menakshi Chaudhary and Premgi Amaren will be seen in pivotal roles. The screenplay is jointly written by Venkat Prabhu, Ezhilarasu Gunasekaran and K Chandru.

Produced by AGS Entertainment, ‘GOAT’ marks Vijay’s penultimate film before he turns a full-time politician. Composer Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematographer Siddhartha Nuni and editor Venkat Raajen are part of the technical team.
