A Communist Party of India (Marxist) branch secretary was allegedly stabbed to death in Thrissur city of Kerala on Sunday night. PU Sanoop, 26, was attacked on Sunday night by a group of men in a clash between members of two groups.

Three other party workers have also sustained injuries in the clash.

While the CPI(M) has alleged the men from the other group were affiliated to right-wing parties, the police have ruled out any political angle to the case.

According to the police, a scuffle broke out between two groups over an “illegal” bike race. The scuffle spiraled into violence which left one person dead.

Around six people, suspected to be involved in the crime, are on the run.

Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) state secretary AA Rahim has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was behind the murder of the CPI(M) worker.
