Cops grill Vikas Dubey, says he feared encounter, received tip-off from police sources in Kanpur

Notorious gangster and history-sheeter Vikas Dubey told the police that he had, in fact, received a tip-off from police sources about the raid in Kanpur.

On receiving tip-off from police sources, Vikas Dubey had cautioned his henchmen and had told them to come along with their arms to his house ahead of the encounter.

Vikas Dubey was arrested on Thursday morning by Madhya Pradesh Police from the Mahakal Temple in Ujjain and is being questioned by the MP Police.

Dubey, during police interrogation, has revealed that he fired upon the police as he feared the force was coming to encounter him.

Vikas Dubey also revealed that he had dumped the bodies of the policemen who were killed in the encounter and had planned to set them ablaze to destroy evidence, however, did not get a chance to do so and escaped.

“I told all my men to run in separate directions. We had received information that the raid will take place in the morning, but the cops came at night only. We did not even have food,” Vikas Dubey told police during the interrogation.

Dubey said that his maternal uncle, owner of the JCB machine used that was used against cops and who was killed a day after the incident, was not handling the machine at the time of the encounter. He said that one of his men named Raju parked the JCB machine in the middle road on the intervening night of July 2 and 3.

Vikas Dubey also revealed that not only Chaubepur Police Station, but he was also being helped by other in police stations as well. Those who helped him in all matters.

“During the lockdown, I took care of all the policemen of Chaubepur Police Station. I fed everyone and helped them in other ways as well,” Vikas Dubey said during police interrogation.

Vikas Dubey also told police that he did not get along well with Circle Officer (CO) Devendra Mishra, who was killed in the encounter by the gangster’s henchmen, as Mishra always used to threaten him. Dubey said SHO Vinay Tiwari had told him that CO Devendra Mishra was against him.

“I was angry at the CO [Devendra Mishra], but I did not kill him. He was killed by my men in the courtyard of my maternal uncle’s house, in front of mine,” Vikas Dubey said.

Vikas Dubey further told the police that also possessed crude bombs that were kept in his maternal uncle’s house and were used against the cops during the encounter on the intervening night of July 2 and 3.

He also revealed that he sought help from a friend, who is the manager of a liquor company, in Madhya Pradesh and asked him to come to Ujjain. Dubey’s friend has been identified as Anand Tiwari.

Madhya Pradesh Police has detained Anand Tiwari.
