Bihar Election: Chirag Paswan challenges Nitish Kumar to contest polls, claims BJP-LJP will form next govt

Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) president Chirag Paswan Thursday stepped up his attack on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, challenging him to contest the Bihar Assembly election 2020. Chirag Paswan questioned why Nitish Kumar has not contested any Bihar Assembly election after 2005 and took a swipe at him saying, the chief minister “does not have direct communication with people” in the state.

Speaking exclusively to India Today TV, Chirag Paswan said, “My father won Lok Sabha elections nine times. Nitish Kumar should contest the Bihar Assembly election 2020 to know the problems people are facing. Nitish Kumar does not have direct communication with people of the state.”

Calling Nitish Kumar an “arrogant” person, Chirag Paswan said as a son, he felt extremely bad when his father, Ram Vilas Paswan, was humiliated by the Bihar chief minister. Chirag Paswan charged Nitish Kumar for trying to defeat LJP candidates during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

“Nitish Kumar tried his level best to defeat all LJP candidates in 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He [Nitish Kumar] insulted my father when he was nominated for Rajya Sabha after 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Nitish Kumar did not turn up for my father’s nomination for Rajya Sabha due to his arrogance,” Chirag Paswan said.

Chirag Paswan also disclosed that it was the decision of his father, Ram Vilas Paswan, because of which he chose to walk out of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and fight the Bihar Election 2020 on 143 seats.

“Why doesn’t he [Nitish Kumar] fight elections alone? I am very junior to Nitish Kumar but I am willing to fight election alone. Nitish Kumar says that he has done a lot of work in the last 15 years and why is he taking the support of the BJP and not fighting elections on his own?” Chirag Paswan questioned.

The LJP chief said he feared Nitish Kumar returning to power [in Bihar Election 2020] would once again doom the future of youth in the state. Chirag Paswan also lashed out at Nitish Kumar’s ambitious ‘Saat Nischay’ programme, maintaining that Bihar would not develop through it.

“I do not trust Nitish Kumar because I know, that, if he remains the chief minister for the next five years, my children will again have to migrate out of Bihar. I wanted my programme ‘Bihar First, Bihari First‘ to be incorporated in the common minimum programme of the NDA but the day he announced ‘Saat Nischay Part 2‘, I had no options but to walk out of the alliance,” Chirag Paswan said.

Advocating the Manipur formula to be replicated in Bihar, Chirag Paswan said all his candidates, who win the Bihar Assembly election 2020, will support the saffron party for a BJP chief minister.

“I have the highest regard for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and I can never think of defeating BJP in elections even in my dreams. I want to categorically say that any number of LJP candidates, who win elections, will be supporting BJP for a BJP CM,” Chirag Paswan said.

Chirag Paswan said he was confident post-November 10 [when the results are announced], there will be a BJP-LJP government in Bihar.

He said, “How can anyone become the chief minister if we do not have requisite numbers? The strike rate of BJP and LJP will be extremely good in these elections. Therefore, I am confident about a BJP-LJP government in Bihar after elections.”

Chirag Paswan also said even if BJP would want him to become the chief minister, he will not accept it as he was committed towards a ‘BJP CM’ in 2020.
