At 1.73 lakh, India sees lowest new Covid cases in 6 weeks; active cases drop by 1 lakh

India has registered over 1.73 lakh new Covid cases, the lowest in the past six weeks, pushing the coronavirus caseload in the country to 2.77 crore. The active cases in the past 24 hours have dropped by 1 lakh.

India on Saturday registered over 1.73 lakh new Covid cases, the lowest in the past six weeks, pushing the coronavirus caseload in the country to 2.77 crore. This is the lowest rise in the past 45 days. India had logged 1.61 lakh Covid cases on April 12.

A total of 3,617 Covid positive patients succumbed to the virus in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll in the country to 3,22,512. So far, 20,89 crore have been vaccinated against the Covid. India has administered a total of 30,62,747 doses in the last 24 hours.

The top five states that have registered maximum Covid cases in the past 24 hours are Tamil Nadu with 31,079 cases, followed by Karnataka with 22,823 cases, Kerala with 22,318 cases, Maharashtra with 20,740 cases and Andhra Pradesh with 14,429 cases.

About 64.08 per cent of the new cases in the past 24 hours were reported from these five states. Tamil Nadu alone contributed 17.88 per cent of the new cases.

The maximum casualties were reported in Maharashtra (973), followed by Tamil Nadu with 486 daily deaths.

The daily recoveries continue to outnumber the daily new Covid cases for the 16th consecutive day. The recovery rate has increased to 90.80 per cent. The positivity rate currently stands at 9.84 per cent.
