Assam Rifles nab two PLA, KCP militants in Manipur

The Assam Rifles, along with the Manipur Police, apprehended two militants belonging to the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) on Tuesday night.

The militants were handed over to Nambol and Irilbung police station for further investigation.

Days after five of its members were killed in an ambush in Manipur, the Assam Rifles apprehended two militants belonging to the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) on Tuesday night.

According to sources, troops of the Assam Rifles launched a joint operation with the Manipur Police and apprehended the PLA militant from Bishnupur district and the KCP member from Imphal East district.

The militants were handed over to Nambol and Irilbung police stations for further investigation.

Earlier on November 14, the Assam Rifles had apprehended two militants of PLA and KCP from Thoubal and Imphal East districts.

The KCP militant was involved in planting an IED in Khurai area.

The Phundrei battalion of Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Manipur Police, had recovered 20 rounds of M79 grenade launcher, also known as lathode, near Wabagai Yanbi High School in Kakching district on November 13.

Five Assam Rifles personnel, including Commanding Officer of 46 AR Col Viplav Tripathi, and his wife and 8-year-old son, were killed in a terror attack in Manipur’s Churachandpur district along the Indo-Myanmar border on November 13.

After the Manipur ambush on November 13, the security forces have stepped up counter-insurgency operations in the state along the Indo-Myanmar border.
