There is a fresh twist in the Hathras case. According to the Uttar Pradesh police investigation, the 19-year-old woman, who was fatally assaulted, was in constant touch with the main accused of the case. Sandeep Singh of the same village is the main accused in this case of alleged gangrape and fatal assault on the Dalit woman in September.
Uttar Pradesh police have investigated the phones of the victim’s family and the main accused. They found that the victim was in constant telephonic touch with the main accused.
According to the police, the probe revealed that Sandeep received regular calls from a number in the name of Satyendra, the brother of the victim.
Telephonic conversation started from October 13, 2019 between Satyendra’s number 989xxxxx and Sandeep’s 76186xxxxx.
Most calls were made from and to in cell towers located in Chandpa region, barely 2 km from Boolgarhi, the victim’s village.
Call records show that 62 calls outgoing and 42 incoming calls totalling 104 — were made between the two phone numbers. According to the police, the call records show that the victim and the main accused were in touch.
The Hathras incident took place on September 14, when the victim was working in a field, when she was allegedly dragged by the accused to a nearby field and assaulted. The family has alleged she was gangraped and strangulated.
She was admitted to a hospital in Aligarh with serious injuries on neck bones and spinal cord. She was later shifted to a Delhi hospital where she died on September 29 evoking a strong reaction on social media. The voices seeking justice for the victim got louder after the UP police controversially cremated the body of the victim in the dead of the night. The family said the police did not take their consent before cremating the body.
