We must aim to achieve industry leading growth: Wipro CEO Thierry Delaporte wrote to staff

BENGALURU: Wipro chief executive officer Thierry Delaporte said the company would aim to achieve industry leading growth and strive for improvement in all spheres despite the short-term challenges.

“Despite the immediate challenges, I have no doubt that we will emerge stronger. We must strive for improvement in all spheres and aim to achieve industry leading growth,” Delaporte wrote to employees in his first letter to employees.

Delaporte, who is currently based in Paris, said over the next few days he would be spending time with senior leaders and teams across units and functions to take a “holistic view” and understand the opportunities and challenges better.

The first non-Indian CEO at Wipro, according to analysts, has his task cut out and will have to turn around some of the key business lines within the IT services major.

Delaporte said in his letter that the ongoing pandemic has “few parallels” in the history and this is a “defining period” for the industry and Wipro.

“Disruption has always been a part of business. Yes , today our normal lives have been upended. The challenges are new, but I know Wipro, with a history of 75 years, has overcome many challenges with tenacity and resilience. The culture of innovation fostered here over the ages will help us pivot and transform,” the new CEO of Wipro wrote to employees.

Delaporte had long conversations with chairman Rishad Premji virtually. “In the last few weeks I have had wide ranging conversations with Rishad. I was struck by his clarity of thought, his principled approach to leadership and his commitment to bring about a cultural shift to create an environment that drives a growth mindset,” he wrote.

He also appreciated the company’s efforts to transform itself to meet new demands during the pandemic and said Covid-19 has brought about “lasting changes in Wipro’s ways of working”.
